All about the MMR catch up programme

ou may already have received (or will shortly receive) the below message from Public Health England:

Measles cases are increasing in England. Our records show that you may not be up to date with your measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccinations. Please contact your GP surgery to confirm your records and book an appointment. You need two doses for the best protection against measles, mumps, and rubella.

On the news recently, they have been reporting the recent outbreaks in England and Wales. Measles is a highly infectious virus that can cause serious illness, such as inflammation of the brain or, in the worst cases, death. The MMR vaccine is highly effective at protecting you from infections (about 99% after two doses) and is free.

These serious illnesses spread easily between unvaccinated people, so it’s important you catch up on any missed doses. For more information, go to www.nhs.uk/mmr. Go to www.england.nhs.uk/mmr-invites for easy read and other languages and formats.

I’ve already had the vaccine, why am I getting this message?

Messages from public health will be linked to your current GP record. Sometimes when you move practice, not all records will be sent across when you register.

If you would like us to update the records for you or your child, please bring a copy of any documentation you may have (for children, this will often be found in the ‘red book’) or you can contact the practice by phone or eConsult to request a link for this information to uploaded electronically.

Why should I get the vaccine? Is it safe?

Below are some helpful video links all about the vaccine:
